Fun journalism? No way

Taking their lead from SPJ South Florida, who hosted a “One Night Stand” a few months back, students from the SPJ chapter at the University of Arizona hosted a Zine Party of their own.

In a hypercritical world where every mistake can be magnified, analyzed, tweeted, Facebooked and Instagramed sometimes it’s nice to do something just because.

To throw yourself into something impossible to screw up — where all you have to do is try.

That’s what a small and mighty group of us did at the Arizona Daily Wildcat’s newsroom on Saturday.

Check out their full recap on their website, where you can read about those involved being “worried it would look like throw up” and the real story about behind the name Can of Beans for their zine.

Or, if you’re just as interested as I was, you can look at the end result, which they published on Issuu. My favorite? Page 5.

And, just to make sure you get a feel for the fun they had, you can check out this YouTube video.

We’re even going to send you home with a doggy bag of resources to take back to your campus.

So if you’ll be in Chicago enjoying the conference, why not join us? Check out the details below, mark it on your calendar and RSVP right away – it’s first come, first served and spots are limited so don’t wait.
