Welcome to SPJ Leading Edge, a newsletter designed to provide chapter leaders and officers with the tools and information to help you lead a chapter, grow and retain membership and improve and protect journalism in your communities. Remember, membership is local. How can we help? Communication is a two-way street. Please send your responses, ideas, questions or problems to Heather Dunn.

On Demand
By Heather Dunn
Good afternoon,
SPJ’s On Demand training sessions are available online to all members at any time and are included as part of membership. They are also a great resource when you think about chapter programming. Consider planning a program around one of the videos and then have someone speak who can expand on the topic with equipment overviews or other hands-on training. Since they are available to members only, they are also a great recruitment tool. Show prospective members one of the videos. If they like what they’ve seen, hand them an application and tell them they can view the others once they sign up for membership.

New videos on personal branding and mobile newsgathering are set to be taped in early March! Look for them to make their debut online later this spring.
